The carbon range is the mirror image of the stainless range: same families, different material logic. Where stainless is bought for its surface, carbon steel is bought for strength per unit cost and for weldability — it is painted or galvanised against storage corrosion rather than left bright, and it serves the broad middle of process, utility and structural piping.
What follows is only what the type pages record. The butt weld elbow, tee and reducer executions are in A234 WPB; caps are listed in carbon and stainless executions with the grade confirmed per product, as the caps page states. The forged catalogue examples — a 3/4 inch Class 3000 socket weld elbow and a 3 inch Class 3000 NPT plug — are in A105. The flange executions named per type page are in A105, with A350 LF2 recorded for the JIS slip-on executions and an A516 Gr.60 plate execution on the spectacle blind page. Any grade beyond those records is confirmed per product at enquiry.
| Item | Range / Options |
|---|---|
| Products | Butt weld elbows, tees, reducers and caps (executions per type page); forged socket weld and threaded fittings (catalogue examples); flanges by type |
| Standards | ASME B16.9 on the butt weld catalogue records that name it; flange standards as recorded per type page; further standards confirmed per product at enquiry |
| Size range | Confirmed per product at enquiry — each type page states its anchored executions |
| Wall thickness | Confirmed per product at enquiry — state NPS plus schedule, or the exact wall, on the enquiry; the wall of a specific execution is assessed against the connecting pipe before order |
| Materials | ASTM A234 WPB (butt weld elbow, tee and reducer executions); ASTM A105 (forged examples and flange executions); ASTM A350 LF2 (JIS slip-on flange executions); ASTM A516 Gr.60 (spectacle blind execution); caps in carbon and stainless executions with the grade confirmed per product; further grades confirmed per product at enquiry |

The Grades, Briefly
- A234 WPB — the wrought carbon steel grade of butt weld fittings: elbows, tees and reducers are ordered in it against A106 or A53 pipe. Caps are the exception in the records on this site: the catalogue lists them in carbon and stainless executions and the grade is confirmed per product, as the caps page states.
- A105 — the forged carbon steel grade: flanges and small-bore forged fittings, where the part is machined from a forging rather than formed from pipe.
- A516 Gr.60 — a pressure-vessel plate grade, recorded on this site for the spectacle blind execution, where the blank is cut from plate.
The grade follows the family's manufacturing route, not the buyer's preference: a butt weld elbow in these records is a WPB question, and the flange records are headed by A105 — with the exceptions this page has already listed, A350 LF2 on the JIS slip-on executions and A516 Gr.60 on the spectacle blind execution. Stating the family grade on the enquiry — and the pipe grade it must weld to — is what lets the execution be confirmed without a clarification round.
Pairing With Pipe
Carbon fittings exist to be welded to carbon pipe, and the conventional pairings run through the range: A106 pipe with WPB fittings and A105 flanges for process lines; A53 and API 5L lines with the same fitting families in matching schedules. The carbon steel pipe page maps the pipe grades by service. Pipe and fittings can be put on one enquiry together, but the grade and chemistry of each item are assessed and confirmed for the specific product before order — putting them on one enquiry does not by itself confirm compatibility at any weld.
Surface and Packing
Carbon steel rusts in storage, so finish is part of the order: black paint is the usual transit protection, and galvanising serves water and outdoor lines. The finish for a specific product is confirmed at enquiry — state any paint, galvanising, marking or case requirement on the enquiry so it is agreed at quotation, as the carbon steel elbow page sets out for its family.
Where Carbon Steel Is Specified
Oil and gas gathering and process lines, steam and condensate, power plant auxiliaries, water and gas distribution, shipboard systems and general plant piping — the services where carbon steel's strength, weldability and cost make it the default, and where corrosion is handled by design allowance, coating or water chemistry rather than by alloy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you supply carbon steel buttweld fittings?
Yes — carbon steel butt weld fittings are the core of the range: the catalogue executions include A234 WPB elbows in Sch 40, STD and XS, equal tees in Sch 80 and Sch 160 with NACE executions listed, concentric reducers in Sch 80 to 160, and caps, which the catalogue lists in carbon and stainless executions with the grade confirmed per product. Each type page states its own executions; anything beyond them is confirmed per product at enquiry.
What grade should I order for low-temperature service?
State the design temperature on your enquiry; the grade for the specific product is confirmed against it before order. Do not assume a low-temperature grade from the family records on this page: most of the executions recorded here are standard-temperature carbon grades, and the one low-temperature grade among them, A350 LF2, is recorded only for the JIS slip-on flange executions.
Carbon steel or stainless steel for my line?
Carbon steel is the default where corrosion is slow, controlled by coating or chemistry, or allowed for in the wall. Stainless takes over where the medium, the washdown regime or product purity rules carbon out. If the medium is named on your enquiry, the grade can be confirmed against it.
Can carbon fittings and pipe ship as one order?
They can be put on one enquiry and quoted and packed as one package, with the packing arrangement agreed item by item at quotation. One order does not by itself confirm compatibility at any weld: each item's grade and schedule is still assessed and confirmed for the specific product before order.
