The absence of a seam is a rating argument. A welded pipe's pressure capability is discounted by a weld joint factor in some codes, and its seam is a feature the inspection regime has to cover. That is why boiler, superheater, refinery and high-pressure gas services write seamless into the specification, and why seamless commands its price premium exactly where the premium is justified.
Our seamless range covers ASTM A106 — the high-temperature carbon pipe specification — and API 5L line pipe grades. The catalogue shows the line-pipe end of the range in detail: an 8 inch Schedule 60 seamless line pipe in API 5L X60 PSL2, bevelled ends, 3LPE coated, listed with a NACE execution; and a 2 inch Schedule 80 example in X52 PSL2 listed to NACE MR0175.

Where Seamless Is Specified
Power plant steam and feedwater, refinery process lines, high-pressure gas, hydraulic systems and boiler tubing runs — services where temperature, pressure or consequence of failure put the weld seam of an ERW pipe under a question it does not need to answer. If the service is ordinary, the ERW page is the economic alternative; our comparison guide draws the line between them.
Matching Fittings
Seamless pipe to ASTM A106 pairs with A234 WPB butt weld fittings and A105 flanges — the standard carbon steel trio of process piping. Pipe and fittings can be put on one enquiry together (see the steel pipes overview), but the grade and chemistry of each item are assessed and confirmed for the specific product before order — ordering together does not by itself confirm compatibility at any weld.
Testing and Documentation
Hydrostatic or non-destructive electric testing follows the governing specification for the grade ordered. For PSL2 and NACE executions, the testing and documentation set is heavier by design — state those requirements at enquiry so the quotation carries them.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between A106 and A53 seamless pipe?
A106 is written for high-temperature service and is seamless-only in its common grades; A53 covers welded and seamless pipe for general service. For hot process lines ASTM A106 is the default specification; A53 appears in utility and structural duty.
Can seamless pipe be supplied 3LPE coated?
Yes — coated line pipe executions, including 3LPE on API 5L seamless, appear in our catalogue. State the coating system and standard on the enquiry.
Is seamless pipe available in every size and schedule?
No pipe type is. Heavy walls in large diameters are the classic constraint. Send the size and schedule list and availability will be confirmed item by item with the quotation.
Do you supply seamless stainless tubes as well?
Stainless seamless tubes sit in the stainless range alongside the seamless carbon programme, but the range titles are collective titles, as the tube page states them: the listings name grades 304, 316 and 316L and round, square and rectangular sections as titles, not as per-product executions — the one single execution they state is a seamless TP316L pipe in Schedule 40S. Name the grade and section your specification requires on the enquiry and it will be confirmed for the specific product before order. See the stainless steel pipe page for what the listings state.
